The researcher has dedicated her academic years to the study of marine invertebrates, specifically brachyuran crabs, and of taxonomy and systematics. The researcher's master's dissertation produced identification keys of the first larval stage of brachyuran crabs from the Western Indian Ocean. The researcher's interests are focused in how natural history museum collections and their integration in digital repositories and open access online databases can help further studies in biodiversity, ecosystem services preservation strategies and modelling of ecological responses to climate change and human influence on natural habitats. Currently the researcher is conducting a PhD in Marine Sciences within the scope of the project COBIO-NET (Coastal biodiversity and food security in peri-urban Sub-Saharan Africa: assessment, capacity building and regional networking in contrasting Indian and Atlantic Oceans), financed by FCT and AGA KHAN Foundation.
