José Alves is an economist he is currently an Assistant Professor in Economics at ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics and Management, Universidade de Lisboa, a position he has held since 2023. Prior to this, he served as an Invited Assistant Professor at both FCUL – Faculty of Sciences, Universidade de Lisboa, and ISG – Business & Economics School. His professional journey also includes roles as a Post-Doc Researcher at UECE – Research Unit on Complexity and Economics, a Parliamentary Advisor in the Portuguese Parliament, and a Project Manager at LNEC – National Laboratory for Civil Engineering. José holds a Ph.D. in Economics from ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa, where he focused on the macroeconomic aspects of taxation. He also earned his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics from the same institution. His research interests lie in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and economic growth. In his teaching career, José has coordinated and taught various courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including International Financial Markets, Economics II, Macroeconomics I, and Economic Policy and Business Activity. He has also been involved in executive education, particularly in Macroeconomic Dynamics. José has supervised numerous more than 30 students (Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc.), guiding their research on topics ranging from tax policy and public debt management to the economic effects of government debt and fiscal sustainability. He has also participated in examination panels for various theses, contributing his expertise to the academic community. His research portfolio is extensive, with more than 25 published papers in international peer-reviewed journals like Finance Research Letters, Economic Modelling, International Review of Economics & Finance, and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money. His work often explores the intersections of fiscal policy, economic growth, and public sector efficiency. He has also contributed to several book chapters and have collaborated in scientific projects funded by institutions like the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. José is actively involved in the academic community, serving on editorial boards of scientific journals and participating in committees for scientific events. He has presented his research at numerous international conferences, showcasing his findings on topics such as fiscal sustainability, the impact of geopolitical tensions on sovereign risk, and the dynamics of public and private investment. Beyond academia, José has engaged in public outreach through the publication of scientific knowledge for non-academic audiences, consulting services, and opinion articles. He has co-edited reports on budget transparency and provided insights on economic policies in various media outlets.
