Ksenija Vuckovic is a biologist, focusing on polar microbiology. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology and Physiology from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade, earned in July of 2022. She completed her bachelor internship at the Institute for Biological Research "Sinisa Stankovic," focusing on identifying two Apis mellifera subspecies to understand the genetic variability of their natural populations. In December 2024, she completed an integrated master's degree in Biodiversity, Genetics, and Evolution at the Faculty of Science, University of Porto. With the support of the Blue Young Talents Plus fellowship grant, Ksenija developed her master's dissertation at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research - CIIMAR. Her research focuses on identifying the microbial composition of precipitation, both rainfall and snowfall, collected in the Northern Antarctic Peninsula, with a specific interest in precipitation originating from extreme weather events. Her master thesis work was integrated into the MAPS project, which investigates the impact of extra-tropical cyclones and atmospheric rivers on the atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers in Antarctica". Ksenija is continuing her research as a member of APMAR2025 and MICROANT projects and is also contributing to improved Antartcic climate metadata access, working under the AntClimNow Fellowship and Stewardship grant. Throughout her studies, she actively engaged in science dissemination, presenting her work at national and international conferences. Ksenija enjoys engaging in science outreach through organizing workshops, participating in open science days, and publishing in a biology students' journal.
