I have a long-standing interest in understanding loss of control over food and drug addiction. I’m graduated in Pharmacy (Università di Siena, IT), and I enrolled in the Biomedicine PhD program awarded with the competitive “PhD fellowship FI (2012-2016)” from Generalitat de Catalunya (SP). I joined the Neuropharmacology lab of Prof R. Maldonado (Universidad Pompeu Fabra) where I obtained my PhD degree in Molecular, Behavioral and Pharmacology Neuroscience (European Doctor Mention) working on the addiction field (thesis: "Involvement of endogenous opioid and cannabinoid systems in addictive-like behavior"). In 2016, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Lab of Addictive Disorders of Dr Cottone at Boston University School of Medicine (USA) where I was involved in studying cognitive dysfunction in binge eating. In 2017 I won the postdoctoral public competition at Neurotoxicology department of University of Milan (IT). Later, I also earned the Italian “Fondazione Veronesi postdoctoral fellowship” (2017) studying cognition deficit and inflammation. Due to my interest in psychiatric disorders, in 2019 I also graduated in Clinical Neuropsychology (INSPSIC, PT). After, I joined the group of MC Fonseca-da Rocha group (Instituto Medicina Molecular- iBB,IST, PT) being a Research Associate of the Stem Cell Epigenetics lab. Here, I started a new line of research related to Eating Addition and Prader Willi Syndrome consolidating my position for 6 years with a research contract by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia through public competition. My research output consists of 10 research papers in international peer-review journals, 1 conference paper and a book chapter, in collaboration with relevant international authors, while applying for grant calls and writing in scientific and public magazines (Portuguese Magazine “Addiction” - dependencias.pt). I presented my work in scientific meetings and invitations (Harvard Medical School, USA) and got several awards (Symposium DCEXS, 2014) and travel grants (IACM-2019/2015, SEIC-2017, ISN-2016). My results were presented in media interviews (Galenox Noticias). I acted as peer-reviewer for Journal of Psychedelic Studies, Psychology & Neuroscience, Psychology & Neuroscience and Neuropsychopharmacology journal and eBioMedicine, as well as in evaluation of new Start-up company research proposals (BioExpert). I have been teaching all the time and trained and supervised students and attended courses for teaching strategies (Training Program for University Teaching (UPF), Teaching STEM Students (IST) and Communication&Advocacy Learning program (FEC). I organized and held the role of Teacher Assistant in the Summer School "Cellular biology of addiction" (2014) and assistant for FENS (2012). I worked as Assistant Professor and member of the Examination Committee for the Toxicology course at the Faculty of Pharmacy (2018) (University of Milan) and I gave seminars for the La Caixa PhD program at University of Aveiro (PT). With the Association of Italian Researchers in Portugal (HIPACIA), I organized scientific conferences promoting networking among institutions. A formative experience was the internship at the Permanent Mission of Italy to International Organization-OO.II (Public Health Sector) in Geneva. Here, I had the possibility to participate in formal and informal meetings promoted by WHO, GFATM, UNAIDS organizations and in reunions and working groups related to pharmacovigilance (i.e. IMPACT, SSFFC), as well as in reunions of expert committee on specifications for pharmaceutical preparations at WHO. Due to this interesting experience, in 2024 I defended my thesis (supervisor Prof H. Barros) for the Master program of Public Health of the University of Porto (PT), where I had the opportunity to collaborate with the European Union Drug Agency (EUDA) for my thesis project working on the medical use of psychedelics. I also had medical care experiences working as a Pharmacist in Europe and Africa
