His research has focused on the development of forest ecosystem management models and decision support systems to address multi-objective and multi-stakeholders environmental planning problems. The main objective is to develop scientifically sound methods that can be used by the public administration, forest owners, industry and non-governmental organizations for enhanced integration of adaptive strategies in multiple-objective forest management planning and for an improvement of existing policy and management approaches. This includes the development of innovative methods and tools that may address the complexity of multi-objective and multi-stakeholder forest planning under climate change and other risks (e.g. forest fires, pests). Research is/has been conducted in the framework of 17 European and 5 national projects. His experience as coordinator includes: i) condination of the project DecisionES funded by the Marie Skodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) of the programa marco H2020 (H2020-MSCA-RISE-2020) with 2.4 Million Euros funding, ii)coordination of a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchanges (RISE) project with the title ¿Models and decision SUpport tools for integrated FOrest policy development under global change and associated Risk and UNcertainty ¿ SuFoRun¿ funded by the H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015/H2020-MSCA-RIS , iii) coordination of the international project ¿ForEAdapt - Knowledge exchange between Europe and America on forest growth models and optimisation for adaptive forestry¿, funded by the FP7 programme: FP7-PEOPLE-2010-IRSES, iv) coordination of a national project ¿Models and Decision Support Systems for Addressing Risk and Uncertainty in Forest Planning (SADRI) reference (PTDC/AGR-FOR/4526/2012), v) Working group leader (WG2) of the Cost Action (2010-2014). ¿Orchestrating forest-related policy analysis in Europe¿ ¿ ORCHESTRA (2013-2015), vi) Working group leader (WG5) of the ForestDSS Community of Practice, vii) Deputy coordinator of IUFRO unit 4.04.06 ¿ Nature Conservation Planning, viii) Vice-Coordinator of the MEDfOR (Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management) Erasmus Mundus Master program. The results of his research in the area of forest management are documented in 62 papers published in ISI journals, 10 book chapters and presented in more than 40 talks at international conferences. He has been co-editor of an international book published by the SLU university and author of 3 chapters of another international book to be published by Springer. In addition, I he has been guest editor of special issues in two ISI journals (i.e. Forest Systems, Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research).
