I was born on March 1, 1960, in England. I obtained my Ph.D. in Systems Engineering with a specialization in Eucalyptus Stands Growth Mathematical Modeling from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, in September 1997. My academic journey began with a degree in Environmental Engineering from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in July 1983, followed by a Master's degree in Operations Research and Systems Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, in July 1987. My doctoral research was greatly influenced by my background and experience, particularly my tenure as part of the Soporcel Research Center research team from 1989 to 1993, focusing on data analysis. Since 1997, I have been teaching Applied Statistics at the university level at ISG Business & Economics School, continuously refining my teaching approach to engage students with real-world data. Over time, I transitioned to blended learning methodologies, leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience. With the onset of the pandemic in early 2020 and advancements in university technology infrastructure, I specialized in delivering blended learning sessions, combining face-to-face interactions with synchronous remote sessions when interesting and feasible. Presently, I hold the position of Professor at ISG and Nova School of Business & Economics where I teach Applied Statistics and Econometrics to undergraduate and graduate students across various disciplines such as Management, Economics, Accounting, Marketing, and Human Resources. I oversee the Statistics courses at both universities, catering to a diverse student body of over 1200 individuals annually from various nationalities. My research endeavors have been primarily focused on tree growth mathematical modeling and data analysis, initially at Centro de Estudos Florestais (CEF) from 1993 to 2003 and subsequently at Centro de Investigação do Instituto Superior de Gestão (CIGEST), where I am a founding member. I have contributed to scientific reports, conferences, journals, and book chapters, with recent efforts concentrated on compiling my lectures into book format. Currently, my primary interest lies in refining teaching methodologies for data analysis at the graduate level, aiming to continuously enhance the educational experience for my students.
