I am an Assistant Professor at Department of Biological Engineering (DEB) at University of Minho (UM) (Portugal). I completed my MSc in Biological Engineering in 2010 and my PhD in Bioengineering Systems in 2014 at UM in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA). Afterwards, I worked at Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB) - UM as a Post-Doc from 2015 to 2018 and as a Junior Researcher from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, from 2014 to 2023 I was actively involved in academia, being frequently invited to teach as Teaching Assistant and as Invited Assistant Professor at DEB-UM. I taught a variety of courses at the BSc and Master in Chemical and Biological Engineering, Master in Biomedical Engineering, Master in Bioinformatics, Master in Biotechnology, and Doctoral Program in Bioengineering (MIT-Portugal Program). I have accomplished several objectives, which contributed to my personal and professional fulfillment, as well as to the recognition of CEB as an institution of excellence: (i) 36 papers published in international peer reviewed journals, four of them published in journals ranked in the top 5 % of their field; (ii) 9 book chapters; (iii) 1 patent application; (iv) 8 extended abstracts/papers and 48 conference abstracts; (v) 1 panel discussion, 1 keynote and 15 invited lectures; (vi) 14 oral, 13 flash and 41 poster communications in national and international conferences; (vii) supervision or co-supervision of 1 post-doc, 3 PhD students, 11 master students, 2 research grantees, 13 master and 1 bachelor curricular projects and 2 trainees; (viii) tutoring of 3 post-doc, 1 research grantee, 5 PhD students, 2 master students, 1 master curricular project and 1 trainee; (ix) team member of 10 projects funded by FCT and European Commission (3 ongoing); (x) Associate Director of Molecular and Synthetic Biology Platform Laboratory (PBMS); (xi) participation in 22 activities of dissemination of CEB and DEB; (xii) reviewer of more than 106 papers for international peer reviewed journals; (xiii) guest editor/co-editor of four special issues; (xiv) reviewer board member and topic reviewer of 7 journals; (xv) examiner of 2 international PhD thesis (xvi) member of the jury of 12 master dissertations (4 as supervisor, 8 as examiner); (xvii) co-organizer of one workshop and two exhibition in biotechnology field; (xviii) recipient of 4 travel grants to support the presentation of my research in prestigious conferences in the field of synthetic biology, a travel grant to network with synthetic biology group at University of Vigo, and two diploma of recognition of merit for scientific publication - 2021 and 2022; (xix) selected for the IMFAHEs Platform of Talent 2023-2024; (xx) member of EUSynBioS steering committee and collaborator of ValleyDAO, two organizations that want to make a difference in synthetic biology field, bring together synthetic biology community and finance it; and (xxi) judge at iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) competition, the most important competition in synthetic biology field.
