João de Abreu e Silva is an Associate Professor w/habilitation of Urban and Regional Planning in the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. João has a degree in Civil Engineering, a Master in Urban and Regional Planning and a PhD in Territorial Engineering. He is a full member of CERIS - Institute for Civil Engineering Research and Innovation for Sustainability (Joao_Abreu_at_CERIS) where he he carries out R&D work in the area travel behavior and its interactions with land use patterns. João has been involved in 18 research projects (funded by MIT Portugal Program, FCT, EU and other agencies) as well as services to the community, in areas related with Sustainable Urban Mobility, Transport Land Use Interactions, Transport Demand Modeling, Data Collection and Intelligent Transport Systems, Social Networks, Transport Megaprojects and Equity. He has authored around 80 articles in peer reviewed journals, 8 book chapters, around 100 articles in conference proceedings, plus several other presentations. He supervised 22 master students and 13 PhD students (plus 5 ongoing). João has also been involved in several international scientific networks, being member of 1 Standing Committees of Transportation Research Board: AMS50 Economic Development and Land Use. He is a member of the International Steering Committee for the Transport Survey Conference. He is Editor of the Journal of Transport and Land Use (www.jtlu.org/), Chair of the World Society for Transport and Land Use (http://www.wstlur.org/) and member of the Editorial Board of the European Transport Research Review (https://etrr.springeropen.com/) and Sustainability (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sustainability). Areas of Interest: Sustainable Urban Mobility, Transport Land Use Interactions, Transport Demand Modeling, Sustainable Urban Mobility, Travel Behavior , Urban Planning
