Carina Cerqueira, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor in the Languages Department at the Porto Accounting and Business School (ISCAP–P.PORTO). She holds a PhD in Translation and Paratranslation from the University of Vigo, with a specialisation in Cultural Translation, as well as both a Degree and a master’s in Translation and Specialised Interpreting from ISCAP/P.PORTO. Currently pursuing a post-doctoral research project in Critical Pedagogy in the Digital Era, focusing on the intersections between multimodality, digital culture, and intercultural education in higher education. An integrated researcher at the Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI/ISCAP), a branch of the Centre for Languages, Literatures and Cultures of the University of Aveiro (CLLC), where she serves as a member of the scientific committee and coordinator of the Intercultural Communication research line. She also integrates the founding scientific committee of the PhD Programme in Intercultural Studies for Innovation (ISCAP), contributing to its conceptual and scientific development. Her research focuses on interculturality, cultural representation, intersemiotic translation, cultural translation, and the interpretation and referentiality of art as a pedagogical space for culturality. She participates actively in applied research and international scientific collaboration, particularly within Erasmus+ and Blended Intensive Programmes. Also, an active member of several European COST Actions—CIRCUL’ARTs, ConnectLAA, RELINK², PLURILINGMEDIA and RethinkBlue—which foster international networks in digital humanities, critical pedagogy, inclusive arts, cultural sustainability and digital transformation. At ISCAP, she coordinates and teaches International Multimodal Communication I & II in the Bachelor’s degree in Business Communication, and has taught a wide range of specialised translation subjects in the Master’s in Specialised Translation and Interpreting (MTIE), including Intersemiotic Translation, Economic and Legal Translation and Technical-Scientific Translation. She is also a teacher of English Culture for Business in the Master’s in Intercultural Studies for Business (MISB), contributing to the programme’s intercultural and applied perspective. As a teacher and researcher in the field of Cultural Studies, Carina is committed to promoting understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and intellectual autonomy in her students. She encourages them to question and interpret the complexities of world cultures, explore cultural issues from interdisciplinary perspectives, and analyse the relationships between language, art, identity, and society. Her pedagogical approach emphasises analytical reflection, problem-solving, and the development of innovative responses to contemporary cultural challenges. She maintains an active engagement with current debates and trends in Cultural Studies, ensuring that her teaching and research remain relevant and connected to academic, professional, and community contexts. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to intercultural awareness, scientific rigor, pedagogical innovation, and the promotion of meaningful dialogue across cultures and disciplines.
