Marta Raquel Cardoso Lopes Correia

My research focuses on above- and below-ground biotic interactions and how climate change shapes these processes and plant community dynamics. Since 2010 (Biology degree), I have worked across diverse ecological systems, including invasive biology (Portugal, Australia), island ecology (e.g., Berlengas, Galápagos), refaunation (Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique), and forest ecosystem functioning (Catalonia, Serra da Estrela). I hold a PhD in Ecology (University of Coimbra, 2019), with outputs published in internationally recognized ecology journals, and later joined a climate-change research project in Serra da Estrela as a junior researcher. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the IslandLife-ERC project on island ecological complexity under global change, focusing on plant–fungi datasets and multilayer ecological network analyses. I have published c. 20 scientific articles and collaborated with ~80 co-authors. Since 2020, I have supervised undergraduate research in Applied Biology, co-supervised a Master’s thesis in Ecology, and co-supervised a PhD. I have participated in four research projects in Ecology and Biodiversity, taken part in international advanced courses, and presented at international conferences. I remain active in science outreach, environmental advocacy, and interdisciplinary initiatives.

2025/05/15 - 2025/05/31	Scientific expedition- Galápagos Archipelago with the IslandLife-ERC team (CSIC-IMEDEA) to conduct field sampling on Daphne Major (4 days) and Santa Cruz (Los Gemelos, Garrapatero). We collected plant–animal–fungus interaction data in collaboration with the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galápagos National Park authorities. I also supervised a volunteer student during the Daphne Major expedition.
