Orlando Alfred Arnold Grossegesse

Professor of German & Comparative Literary Studies at Universidade do Minho (Braga, Portugal), since 1990. He has written widely on Translation and Comparative Literature and Culture (mainly German / Portuguese), German Literature and Culture, Portuguese Literature and Culture , Spanish Literature and Culture, notably the monograph publications on Eça de Queirós (Roman und Konversation, Stuttgart: Steiner, 1991 [Ph.D thesis 1989]) and Saramago (Saramago lesen, Berlin: tranvía 1999; 2nd ed. 2009). His more recent area of research is Refugee / Migration Studies, coordinating the research team EHum2M founded in 2017 within the CEHUM (Centre for Humanistic Studies). He is co-editor (selection of titles), with Henry Thorau, of À procura da Lisboa africana (Húmus, 2009), with Mário Matos, of Zonas de Contacto: Estado Novo / III Reich (TDP, 2011) and Intercultural Mnemo-Graphies (Húmus, 2012) and recently, with Elena Brugioni and Paulo de Medeiros, of A Companion to João Paulo Borges Coelho. Rewriting the (Post)Colonial Remains (Oxford: Peter Lang, 2020). Academic CV: 1986: M.A., at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), Munich. 1989: PhD (additionally: Italian Studies), at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. Freelance translator and author. Literary translator (e.g. Mário Sá-Carneiro; Enrique Vila-Matas into German). Since November 1990: scholar at the University of Minho (Universidade do Minho: UM), Campus Gualtar (Braga, Portugal). From 2004 onwards: associate professor (tenure).
