Dr Ngoc-Son Dang was awarded his PhD in February 2021 at Chung-Ang University, South Korea. His research expertise lies in the digitalisation and digital twinning of civil infrastructure, with a particular focus on bridges, through data-driven design approaches. Over the course of his career, he has produced significant research outcomes, particularly in the development of bridge management and maintenance systems (BMS), artificial intelligence–based structural health monitoring systems (SHM), digital twin models (DTM), and information delivery frameworks for a wide range of bridge types, including prefabricated bridges, prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges, cable-stayed bridges, and suspension bridges. In addition, Dr Dang is recognised as an expert in generative design and holographic computing, with substantial experience in the application of advanced eXtended Reality (XR) technologies. He is a lecturer at the international master's BIM A+ and NORISK, a member of IABSE TG 5.6. He has also received academic and industry distinctions, including the Best Paper Award at KIBIM 2016 and a Special Recognition Award Winner at YII 2018. His scholarly impact is reflected in his bibliometric indicators, with approximately 800 citations on Google Scholar (h-index: 13; i10-index: 14). His publication record includes 16 papers in Science Citation Index (SCIE) journals, one registered patent, five national journal articles, one book chapter, eight contributions to book series/IOP conference proceedings indexed in Scopus, as well as numerous papers presented at international conferences. During his doctoral studies, he contributed as a research associate to several projects funded by the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, namely: • Intelligent rapid construction technology for partial assembly and replacement. • Establishment of a collaborative environment utilising a BIM-based digital model for entry into the overseas cable bridge market. • Development of Level-3 digital models for overseas cable bridge projects. Prototypes of some of the developed BMS have been successfully implemented on bridges in South Korea, demonstrating considerable potential for future applications in n-dimensional facility management. More recently, Dr Dang has served as the principal investigator or leading executor on several projects funded by FCT-ANI and European research programmes, including: • Bridge Management System – Bridge Intelligence (GOA.BI); • Cognitive Computerised Maintenance Management System (Cognitive CMMS); • Sustainability and Resilience for Infrastructure and Logistics Networks (SARIL); • Innovation Alliance to Infuse Extended Reality Skills into Higher Education and Vocational Training (Alliance4XR).
