Pedro Teixeira Pereira Viana

Pedro Teixeira Pereira Viana completed his Licenciatura in Física/Matemática Aplicada - ramo de Astronomia in 1992 from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, and his M.Sc. in Astronomy in 1993 from the University of Sussex (UK). In 1997 he completed his D.Phil. In Astronomy from the University of Sussex (UK), and in 1998 he obtained Equivalência a Doutoramento from the University of Porto. He was a post-doctoral researcher at the Astronomy Centre, University of Sussex (UK), in 1997, and at the Center for Astrophysics of the University of Porto, in 1998 and 1999. He joined the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) as Professor Auxiliar in 1999, having become Professor Associado at FCUP in 2021. He has published 64 articles in specialized scientific journals with international circulation, of which 62 in journals belonging to the first quartile in terms of impact factor in the respective main scientific area. He made 14 scientific oral presentations in international conferences and workshops, including 2 invited. He has refereed scientific articles in all the major journals in Astronomy and Astrophysics. He participated in Local/ Scientific Organizing Committees of 6 national and international conferences, meetings and workshops (1 coordinated). He participated in 9 research projects funded by FCT, having coordinated 3 of them. He has supervised 5 PhD students, and 15 Master students. He was a member of the Astronomy Working Group of the European Space Agency (ESA, 2003 - 2005), participating in the definition of the priorities of ESA's scientific program for the decade 2015 - 2025. He was an evaluator of observation proposals for the XMM-Newton (ESA) satellite in 2010 and 2011. He is a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) since 2003. He has been frequently a member of the Board of Directors (Director and two members) of the Center for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (1998 - 2012, 2013 - 2014, 2024).
