Mariana Feijó, PhD in Biochemistry (University of Beira Interior, UBI, Covilhã, Portugal), is a researcher at RISE-Health, University of Beira Interior (UBI). Her main research interests focus on the peculiarities of the prostate tumour microenvironment, namely adiposity and its role in promoting disease aggressiveness. She is also interested in studying the impact of environmental endocrine-disrupting chemicals, particularly those with obesogenic potential, on male reproductive tissues, focusing on cancer onset/progression and fertility impairment mechanisms. At the present moment, Mariana has published 12 papers (seven as first author) and 5 abstracts (three as first author) in highly recognised Q1 journals in the field of oncology, reproductive biology and multidisciplinary sciences. She has been actively participating in national and international scientific events, in which original research results were presented (41 posters; 17 as the first author; 6 oral communications; 3 as the first author). The results of Mariana's research awarded the best communication prizes, the "Prémio Professor Alexandre Moreira" from the Portuguese Society of Andrology, the "Bolsa de Investigação em Urologia 2022" from the Portuguese Society of Urology and, more recently, the “Programa de Incentivo UBI-CGD a Jovens Investigadores 2025” from UBI and Caixa Geral de Depósitos. She participated as a team member in 12 research projects, supervised 6 BSc final projects, co-supervised 6 MSc dissertations (2 in progress) and trained young researchers in laboratory techniques. Mariana also participated as arguer in the evaluation of undergraduate students' BSc final projects. Mariana is committed to science communication and dissemination and has collaborated in the organisation of diverse scientific events and activities.
