I am a Junior Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE R&D unit, awarded in the 2021 competitive Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus promoted by FCT, and a specialist in organic colorants applied in heritage objects. Aiming for the safeguard of treasured artworks, I contributed to a better understanding of these materials, their causes of color change, and mechanisms of degradation. This knowledge is crucial for dating, provenience, and authentication studies. In 2019 I got my PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (specialization in Conservation Science), funded by an FCT grant won in a highly competitive call (PB/BD/105895/2014). My project was awarded the prestigious prize Stimulus for Research, by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a world reference in cultural studies. Within the interdisciplinary group pioneered by Melo (chemistry) and Miranda (history), it bridged Science & Art in the study of medieval manuscripts, developed at NOVA and Perugia Universities, world-renowned institutions in the field of heritage science. My thesis has, for the first time, provided insight on the construction of organic color paints, disclosing recipes' specificities. This knowledge is crucial to propose dating and location of manuscript production and a better understanding of the artists' materials and causes of degradation. At Perugia, within the European infrastructure MOLAB network, I gain expertise in the use of portable instruments for the analysis of artworks, with Costanza Miliani, world leader in the study of heritage materials, and Aldo Romani, president of the Excellence Centre SMAArt. My experience continued to grow with my participation in several European projects. I emphasize the projects Vienna Genesis (ÖNB, UNESCO Memory of the World), and IMAN (IAPH), for the study of Islamic manuscripts rescued from Timbuktu. This approach has significantly contributed to the valorization and safeguard of endangered manuscripts. The output of my research is impressive, with 23 peer-reviewed publications, all Q1, 6 book chapter, and 8 proceedings. Of the 36 total, 14 publications are as first author and 10 as corresponding author. I have actively disseminated my research with 46 oral and 24 posters communications. I believe in the importance in contributing to the development of critical mass of future conservation professionals. Since 2016, I have assisted in teaching courses from the Department of Conservation and Restoration at NOVA and supervised 3 PhD theses, and co-supervised 4 MSc theses, 1 BA and 10 curricular projects. In 2018 I became one of the co-coordinators of FCT funded project Polyphenols in Art (PTDC/QUI-OUT/29925/2017), won in a competitive call. I am the Co-PI of the task for the characterization of yellow dyes present in artworks, using historical sources, for their identification and preservation in artworks. In 2020 I was invited to participate in a COST Action that aims to rewrite the history of Europe through textiles (EuroWeb), being selected to integrate the Portuguese management committee, managing the entire Portuguese team and funding, while also becoming the Leader for Working Group 2 'Clothing Identities'. This still ongoing role has proven highly rewarding, with the organization of international conferences, fostering new projects for the conservation of textiles. Recently, in 2022, I won a 250.000¿ project as the Principal Investigator within an FCT call for Research & Development. This project called "REVIVE | The threads of the past weaving the future: The colors from the Royal Textile Factory of Covilhã, 1764-1850" (2022.01243.PTDC), aims at uniting Science, History and Art for the preservation of lost crafts. Finally, I am one of the coordinators of the research team which has applied to a consortium, uniting the leading research labs in the study of natural colorants and top-of-the-edge companies for wool products' development.
