Pablo Hernández-Marrero is Research Professor (accredited by the Ministry of Universities, Spain) of Health Services Research: Health Policy, Organization and Management, and Evaluation. He works as Principal Investigator at CEGE, Ethics and Sustainability Research Area: Palliative Care Research, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. He obtained his Ph.D. in Health Services Research from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2006; with a minor in Management in the Ph.D. in Management at the Rotman School of Management at UofT. Pablo completed a three-year Postdoctorate in Bioethics Empirical Research within an EU-funded project with a focus on research ethics and clinical dementia research. Pablo has broad international experience combining research, education, management, consulting and clinical work. He worked in Portugal, Spain, Canada, Poland, Denmark, Bolivia, Mexico, Chile and other countries. In Canada, Pablo worked for over 10 years in academic (e.g., University of Toronto) and healthcare organizations (e.g., Mount Sinai Hospital) where he built up a wide know-how in multiple national and international projects and organizations. He has extensive executive management experience across the continuum of services in primary care, long-term care, and large university teaching hospitals, both in Canada and Spain. Between 1992 and 2012, he also worked as an international consultant and team leader in national and international public health and health services projects. He has worked in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education (e.g., programs in health services research, public health, medicine, health policy, management, palliative care, bioethics and research methods in several countries): Professor of Public Health and Health Services Management, and 1st - 2nd year Master Theses Coordinator, Europubhealth+: European Public Health Master (ERASMUS+ Program), Andalusian School of Public Health, Spain; Professor and Coordinator, MBA: Health Administration, MBA Business School, Spain; Professor of Public Health at the Jagiellonian University Medical College, Institute of Public Health, Poland; Associate Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), Spain; Invited Professor, Europubhealth+, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Institute of Public Health, Krakov, Poland; Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, Denmark; Europubhealth+ and Europhamili-ManaHealth (EU Leonardo da Vinci program), National School of Public Health - Rennes, France; Faculty of Health Sciences, ULPGC, Puerto Montt, Chile; Faculty of Business Administration, University of New Brunswick, Canada; Institute of Bioethics, Universidade Católica Portuguesa; Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra; Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon, Portugal. Pablo has participated in international interdisciplinary teams and coordinated academic and research activities. He supervised and co-supervised bachelor students in health sciences and management; supervised and chaired the jury of more than forty master and Ph.D. candidates (palliative care, public health, health services research, healthcare management, organization sciences and management, health sciences and bioethics) in Canada, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Denmark, France and Poland. He has coordinated, as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI, more than fifteen competitive projects in Spain, Canada and Portugal. Currently, Pablo is WP lead/co-lead in 6 EU-funded projects (Horizon Europe, COST Action, and ERASMUS+). His research combines the areas of health services research (e.g., outcomes research, comparative effectiveness research and evaluation), implementation science, research ethics and palliative care; establishing micro-meso-macro linkages with justice and inequities in health to improve healthcare organizations and systems making them more effective, efficient, ethical, and sustainable.
