Carla Santos completed her PhD in Biotechnology in 2017 by Universidade Católica Portuguesa Escola Superior de Biotecnologia. Is working as Doctorate Junior Researcher on the nutritional and agronomic characterization of different plant germplasms towards the elaboration of new plant-based products and more sustainable agricultural practices. Published 29 articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals, 13/29 as 1st author, 4/29 as the corresponding author. Has 7 book chapters. Is supervisor/co-supervisor of 2 PhD Thesis. Supervised 1 MSc dissertation and co-supervised 9. Has received 9 awards and/or honours, one of which Accéssit Award for Best Doctoral Thesis in Agronomy (in 2018), by the multinational fertilizing company Fertiberia. Is the Principal Investigator of LeguCon Project (www.legucon.pt), which aims at building a consortium towards increased legume production, to support sustainable consumption patterns and climate change mitigation. Currently participates in 4 European projects (H2020-101000622; H2020- SEP-210571680; EURENI_21_D-014; and COST Action CA19116), 1 bilateral project (FCT-DRI ESLOVAQUIA 5160) and 1 National project (FCT-EXPL/QUI-QIN/0411/2021). Is Associate Editor for Frontiers in Plant Science - board of Plant Nutrition (Q1) and was invited as Guest Editor for 3 Special Issues for Sustainability (Q2), Agronomy (Q1) and Crops journals. Has an H-index=12 and a total of 418 citations (Scopus, Feb 2022). Works in the area of Agronomy Sciences with emphasis on Agriculture, Environmental Biotechnology and Food Biotechnology.
