The beginning of Armanda Rodrigues road for scientific independence started in 2017 with the PhD degree attribution. Her work was supported by FCT SFRH/BD/73386/2010 and constituted an innovative approach to immune-parasitology, using 3D-cell models of canine hepatocytes and contributing to endorse liver as a central immunological organ. As junior post-doctoral researcher, Rodrigues A increased her scientific background, by participating in research projects in different areas, such as metabolic oncobiology, as research fellow (iNOVA4Health Project NOVA Medical School) and addressing the role of self and non-self-DNA in activating innate immune receptors and regulating cell fate. In 2019, she was assigned as post-doctorate researcher at iMed ULisboa (PTDC/MED-TOX/29183/2017) where she worked with 3D-cultures and human stem cell-derived hepatocyte-like cells. At IHMT/UNL, Rodrigues A has been conducting innovative research on extracellular vesicles shed by trypanosomatids of veterinary importance and assessing their interaction with host immune system (PTDC/CVT-CVT/28908/2017). Rodrigues A has lecturing experience in post-graduated advanced national and international courses, including MSc and PhD teaching programs, lecturing on immunology, Real-time PCR, ELISA and Flow Cytometry. Presently, Rodrigues A is a post-doctoral researcher (2022.00499.CEECIND), she is tackling neglected tropical diseases addressing the role of extracellular vesicles and microRNAs using tridimensional (3D) cell models to unravel host-parasite interactions. Rodrigues A, is also a COST Action member (CA21108 - European Network for Skin Engineering and Modeling and CA20110 - RNA communication across kingdoms: new mechanisms and strategies in pathogen control). Rodrigues A is Principal Investigator (PI) of a new exploratory project (2023.11944.PEX) aiming to apply groundbreaking skin tissue culture and immunology, allied with microRNA sequencing and molecular techniques, to unravel new insights on host-parasite early interaction in the skin. She is author and co-auhtor of several papers published in Q1 or Q2 immunology, veterinary sciences, parasitology, and interdisciplinary journals, with impact factors above average to the field. Rodrigues A actively performs scientific revision of manuscripts and is part of the editorial team of several for international peer-reviewed journals. She also enthusiastically participates in various national and international scientific meetings, divulging her most innovative results. Her current areas of expertise are: 3D cell culture systems; Immunology and host-parasite interaction; Liver metabolism and local immunology; 3D Cell Models and molecular Biology; Cell culture; Trypanosomatids biology; Cytotoxicity assays for drug screening; Biology of cancer; Extracellular vesicles.
