Helena Gervasio has a master's degree and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Coimbra and she is an integrated member of the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE). She is Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Coimbra. Over the last 15 years, her research activities have been focussing on the sustainability of construction works and on the development of methods and tools striving for a more sustainable society. In this context, her research topics are Life cycle analysis of Structures and Infrastructures, integrating environmental, economic and social criteria; Efficiency of resources in construction; Decarbonization of the built environment; Energy efficiency of Buildings: numeric simulations and experimental tests; Passive strategies for Buildings. She is a member of different national and international associations and technical committees focusing on the sustainability of structures. She has been responsible for several international and national research projects and she is the author of about 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals, international and national conferences, 8 books and 5 book chapters
