I have a bachelor degree in Biochemistry and a master degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology obtained at the University of Algarve. I developed my master thesis entitled "Analysis of transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of DUSP4, a human gene associated with colorectal cancer (CRC)" and obtained the classification 19. During this period, I gained considerable experience in methods of: - molecular biology like PCR, qPCR, DNA cloning, and bacteria transformation methods; and - cellular biology like routine maintenance of mammalian cell cultures, transfection techniques and luciferase activity assay. In 2017, I did a professional internship in BIOSKEL laboratory and my work was mainly focused on the identification of genetic mutations associated with several human pathologies, particularly bone-related diseases, as well as on the investigation of their functional effect through in silico and in vitro analysis. This internship also allowed me to develop skills on several microscopy techniques (transmitted light and fluorescence), histology (tissue sections and staining) and immunoassays. After, I worked at CCMAR as a researcher in ALGARED+ project and then in BLUEHUMAN project, financed by the European Territorial Cooperation Program (CTE) Spain Portugal POCTEP. These research focused on the evaluation the osteogenic and skeletal effects of extracts derived from microalgae in the zebrafish. Both projects allowed me to gain experience in working with in vivo models like zebrafish and in bone structures staining (alizarin red) techniques. Currently, I am doing a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and my thesis is entitled "Identification of novel CDKL5 molecular targets/pathways associated with skeletal defects present in CDKL5 associated disorders". In parallel, I have been disseminating my research by presenting posters in meetings/conferences as an author or co-author and by doing oral communications. I have two research articles published as first author and one as co-author. To enrich my scientific knowledge, I participated in several events such as workshops, conferences and international congress and I was also involved in the organization of one congress. I was also co-supervisor of several students in their conclusion graduation projects of Biomedical Sciences course.
