António A. Correia obtained his PhD in Earthquake Engineering in 2011, included in the Reduction of Seismic Risk (ROSE) Programme at the University Institute for Advanced Studies (IUSS), Pavia, Italy. Previously, he completed a Specialization in Geotechnics (MSc level), a MSc in Structural Engineering and graduated in Civil Engineering in 2001 at Instituto Superior Técnico, Univ. of Lisbon, Portugal. His research interests are in: seismic risk and structural vulnerability/fragility; seismic design and code development; experimental assessment of the seismic response of structures; soil-structure interaction effects and ground response analysis; development of material and geometrically nonlinear numerical models; system identification, model updating and operational modal analysis. He currently serves as Associate Researcher and Head of the Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics Unit of the Department of Structures of the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC), in Lisbon, Portugal. He participates and/or participated as Principal Investigator in 5 international and national research projects and played active research roles in 15+ projects, with minor participation in other projects. Special mention is made to his role as local PI of the 10 M€ EU H2020 research project "Seismology and earthquake engineering research infrastructure alliance for Europe" (SERA), of the ongoing 11M€ EU Horizon Europe research project "Engineering Research Infrastructures for European Synergies" (ERIES), of the seismic risk studies for Almada municipality in AML and for a number of critical infrastructures, and of the FCT project HybridNET. Among his research activities in these projects are the development of seismic risk studies, conducting several shaking table tests and performing numerical modelling analyses and developments. He also developed and implemented several innovative finite element models in the software SeismoStruct and other numerical tools. He received fellowships at postdoctoral, doctoral, and graduate levels, and also received 6 scientific awards - one for developing an innovative in-plane and out-of-plane simultaneous seismic testing device and methodology for masonry infill walls -, and delivered 15 invited lectures at international and national conferences, while being co-author of 9 others. He supervised or co-supervised 6 PhD and 11 MSc students. Published 7 book chapters, 25+ papers in journals, 50+ papers in conferences and 50+ technical and scientific reports. Additionally, he is regularly an invited lecturer at different national and international universities and has previously lectured at the university for 5 years. He is an experienced professional engineer, having worked for 5 years in design companies and regularly performing consultancy work as an expert, namely for the World Bank and the European Commission. He currently also serves as Technical Secretary of Sub-Commission 8 (Eurocode 8) of Technical Committee 250 (Structural Eurocodes) of the European Standardization Committee (CEN/TC250/SC8), strongly contributing to the preparation of the next generation of Eurocode 8. He is a Member of the Executive Committee of EFEHR Consortium (European Facilities for Earthquake Hazard and Risk, part of EPOS ERIC - http://www.efehr.org/en/home), of the Technical Committee 203 (TC203: Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering and Associated Problems) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), of Working Group 6 (Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering) of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering (EAEE), of ad hoc Group "Numerical Methods" of TC250, of Task Group 1 "Methods of analysis" and of Working Group 4 "Seismic action and site classification" of CEN/TC250/SC8, and of the Sub-Commission on Eurocode 8 of the Portuguese Technical Committee for Standardization related to the Structural Eurocodes (CT115/SC8).
