I am a Junior Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE R&D unit, contract awarded in the 2020 competitive FCT Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (3rd place) with a project dedicated to an integrated study of the manufacture and stability of madder reds towards their preservation in artworks. I am also a collaborative researcher at VICARTE R&D unit. My research crosses the disciplinary boundaries of technical art history and conservation science, aiming to increase knowledge on artists' materials by combining the study of their historical production, colour stability and analytical characterisation, and ultimately adding to better conservation and authentication procedures. In 2018, I completed a PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (specialisation in Conservation Science) at NOVA with an FCT grant awarded in a competitive call. It advanced key knowledge on the 19th c. manufacture and stability of chrome yellow pigments, known to be degrading in treasured artworks such as Van Gogh's Sunflowers. It was the first doctoral work to explore the W&N 19th Century Archive Database proving its unique value. The inclusion of my PhD in the FCT funded project "Crossing Borders¿ exposed me to a collaborative environment between art historians, curators, conservators and scientists, which enhanced my interpersonal and multidisciplinary skills. Currently, I am the PI responsible for the research collaboration between DCR NOVA and W&N COLART Ltd. I am a task coordinator of two FCT funded projects; one dedicated to the study and preservation of writing inks and organic yellow paints used in medieval manuscripts (Polyphenols in Art) and other committed to the study, safeguard, uses and reuses of magic lanterns in 19th-Century Portugal (MAGICA). I am also a researcher of a Brazilian funded project that investigates microplastics found in the estuary of the Amazon River. I have an h-index of 14 with 23 papers in peer-reviewed journals and >1000 citations (WoS & Scopus), indicating my research's international impact. My publishing track record in the field of conservation science is strong, and my solid analytical skills also allow me to publish in collaboration with scientists from the Chemical, Material, Marine and Environmental Sciences. I have participated in international conferences with 26 oral (including invited talks) and 18 poster communications, having 1 book chapter and 9 published proceedings. I am a reviewer for several scientific journals, including Heritage Science, Heritage, Applied Sciences, Materials and The European Physical Journal Plus. Since 2011, I have collaborated with the DCR NOVA in lecturing courses for BSc, MSc and PhD students; I have co-supervised 1 PhD, 3 MSc theses and several curricular projects, and I am co-supervisor of 2 PhD and supervisor of 1 MSc theses. I am co-responsible for the DCR's analytical infrastructure and its financial management. I also coordinate the authentication services of artworks by the Portuguese Modern painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887-1918). I am frequently engaged in knowledge dissemination activities for the general public, on art and science, with emphasis on art forgery (2 magazine papers, 3 invited talks for school students and several workshops). I also participated in 1 TV documentary and 1 documentary film on Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. My multidisciplinary research has enabled me to establish a national and international collaborative network that includes renowned institutions such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Politecnico di Milano and the IFAC-CNR.
