John Charles Willman is a researcher at CIAS (Centro de Investigação em Antropologia / Research Centre for Anthropology and Health) in the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. He belongs to the Past Cultures and Population research cluster where he is the co-director (with Dany Coutinho Nogueira) of the Virtual Anthropology Laboratory and a member of the Laboratory of Prehistory (directed by Ana Maria Silva). He is the recipient of two FCT Scientific Employment Stimulus contracts (2023.08043.CEECIND and 2021.02147.CEECIND) and conducted postdoctoral research in both Portugal and Spain through two consecutive Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships (H2020-MSCA-IF-2018, No. 839822 and H2020-MSCA-IF-2016, No. 749188). His doctoral research was funded by the Leakey Foundation. He received his doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Washington University in Saint Louis (U.S.A.) in 2016. John Willman’s includes research topics spanning paleoanthropology, bioarchaeology, dental anthropology, domestication, and Paleolithic archaeology. His laboratory methodologies focus on virtual and microscopic approaches to human paleobiology and morphological variation. He is the author of 26 journal articles and 7 book chapters. He has studied human fossil and skeletal remains at more than 50 museums in 18 countries.
