I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a specialization in Molecular Biology and Genetics (2021), and a Master's degree in Human Biology and Environment (2024), both from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. My Master's thesis was conducted in the Integrative Biomedicine (IB) research group at Nova Medical School under the supervision of Dr. Juliane Menezes. There, I investigated the mechanisms of action of ARHGEF10, a conserved gene linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, using Drosophila genetics, neurogenetics, and behavioral profiling. Through spontaneous and induced locomotor behavior analysis, I demonstrated that ARHGEF10 has an age-dependent, neuronal role in locomotor control that is conserved in Drosophila. Controlled genetic rescue experiments further revealed sex-specific isoform requirements of this gene. In parallel, I developed skills in microscopy (confocal and fluorescence), immunohistochemistry, and the culture of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and neuronal stem cells (June–August 2023). I continued my work in the IB group as a volunteer researcher (March 2024–March 2025), gaining experience in neuromuscular organoid generation, presenting at national conferences, and co-authoring a scientific paper. Alongside research, I contributed to teaching at the Faculty of Sciences by assisting in the development of educational materials, serving as a course monitor for Neurobiology (3rd-year Biology), and mentoring a student in Drosophila-based lab work. Currently, I hold a research fellowship and am enrolled in the Postgraduate Studies in Scientific Research Methods and Techniques at the Faculty of Sciences.
