Virgílio Alexandre da Silva Marques Bento (VAB) concluded the PhD in Geophysical and Geoinformation Sciences in July 13, 2018 at Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). VAB is a contributing member of Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) since 2013. VAB is a post-doc researcher at IDL and has participated in national and international projects such as FCT IMPECAF, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), or the Brazilian Fire-Land-Atmosphere System (Br-FLAS). As of today, VAB is working in IDL within the scope of the National Environment Agency (APA) in the National Roadmap for Adaptation XXI (RNA 2100) focused on the key sectors of forestry and forest fires. The project main objective is to support the public policy exercises of adaptation to climate change, set at different levels of territorial intervention. As of April 2023, VAB has published 17 peer reviewed papers, has 4 papers in review, and is preparing 4 new papers to submit within the first semester of the year. Publications are in high impact journals such as Scientific Reports (IF 5.1), Global and Planetary Change (IF 5.1), Weather and Climate Extremes (IF 5.3), Agricultural and Forest Meteorology (IF 5.7), or ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (IF 8.9). VAB has participated in more than 20 national and international conferences, has supervised one BSc and one MSc student, and has cooperated with researchers from several national and international institutes such as the National Environment Agency (APA), the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), IDL, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI), the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) at University of Maryland, and the Beijing Normal University.
