Bruno Falcão is a highly motivated and experienced researcher with broad expertise in the physical characterization of nanomaterials, in particular through spectroscopy techniques , as well as in semiconductor/thin-film deposition and device fabrication in cleanroom environment. Throughout his research career, he has been primarily focused on the investigation of structural, optical, and electrical properties of a wide variety of nanostructured materials, and have been working on their integration into photovoltaic devices and high-performance optoelectronics. His scientific activities have been mainly developed at the Institute for Nanostructures, Nanomodelling, and Nanofabrication (i3N) at Universidade de Aveiro (UA) in the scope of many (inter)national projects and active collaborations, including with the industry (SolarPlus SA, Lightenjin II Lda). He has had several internationalisations, either as a mobility student or a visiting researcher, namely in Brazil (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais), Sweden (NanoLund, Lund University), Denmark (iNano, Aarhus University), and Italy (Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, IMM/CNR). He has also been engaged in the formation of (under)graduate students as a teaching assistant, invited lecturer, tutor, and thesis supervisor. After completion of his Ph.D. in 2020 (UA), he joined CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, and worked on the synthesis and characterization of novel carbon-based superhard materials at extreme conditions of pressure and temperature. After that, he became the leading investigator of an industrial project aimed to the development of smart windows based on luminescent centers, comprising energy harvesting and generation solutions as well as internal and external temperature sensors fully integrated with the IoT. In 2023, he rejoined i3N at UA as leading researcher in one PRR project, where he is currently employing luminescent nanoparticles for leakages detection in electric and renewable heating appliances. Meanwhile, he continues to be involved in educational activities in the physics department of UA, and to collaborate with other (inter)national groups and institutions in different projects in the field of materials science and applied physics. Among several research interests, he is focused on developing biological and high-performance printable optoelectronic based on silicon nano materials and evaluating radiation effects on CIGS solar cells for space applications. Overall, he contributed to the publication of 25 scientific papers in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals, participated in numerous national and international scientific events, and received several distinctions and presentation awards. According to Scopus, he has over 400 citations and an h-index of 12.
