Jônatas Augusto Manzolli is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IMaTS Laboratory, McGill University (Canada), and a Fellow Researcher at the Institute for Systems Engineering and Computers at Coimbra (INESC Coimbra, Portugal). He holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems and an MSc in Energy for Sustainability from the University of Coimbra, and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil), including an academic exchange program at the Technical University of Munich (TUM, Germany). His academic trajectory reflects a strong international, interdisciplinary, and systems-oriented background, spanning energy systems, transportation engineering, and advanced decision-support methodologies. His research focuses on the development and application of quantitative and computational methods for sustainable transportation and energy systems, with particular emphasis on optimization, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making. He has extensive experience in mathematical optimization, bi-level optimization, robust and stochastic modeling, and multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), applied to complex problems in electric vehicles, electric bus fleets, smart charging, vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and energy–transport system integration. More recently, his work has expanded to include artificial intelligence and large language models, particularly in hybrid frameworks that combine AI with formal optimization and decision analysis to support participatory planning and complex policy evaluation. Despite being at an early stage of his academic career, Jônatas has built a solid and internationally visible research record, with 17 peer-reviewed scientific publications, an h-index of 8, and over 330 citations (Scopus). His work has appeared in leading journals in energy, transportation, and sustainability, and is characterized by a strong emphasis on operational realism, methodological rigor, and transferability across contexts. A recurring theme of his research is the coupling of modern power systems and electrified mobility, examining how flexible transport assets can support grid operation, resilience, and decarbonization goals. Jônatas has received prestigious and competitive merit-based awards, including the Sylff (Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund) Award from the Tokyo Foundation for Young World Leaders in 2020. He has also held multiple competitive scholarships throughout his academic path, supporting international mobility and research excellence. During his doctoral studies, he was an invited researcher at the University of Sherbrooke and McGill University. These experiences strengthened his global network of collaborators and shaped his current research agenda. He is actively engaged in academic leadership, mentorship, and community building. Jônatas founded the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Chapter at the University of Coimbra and served as Vice-Chair of the IEEE Student Branch from 2020 to 2021. He regularly collaborates with undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students, contributing to research supervision, model development, and scientific writing. He has delivered technical talks, given seminars, and given tutorials on electric mobility, optimization, and sustainable transportation, including contributions at international conferences.
