Ana Paula Pires holds a PhD in History from NOVA University of Lisbon. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Azores. Pires was a post-doc at Stanford University (2016-2019) and from September to December 2019 a Remarque Fellow at the University of New York, where she is currently a Visiting Scholar. Her main area of research is the economic and social history of the First World War, particularly its impact in Portugal and in Africa. Author of A Grande Guerra no Parlamento (with Maria Fernanda Rollo) (Lisbon, Divisão de Edições da Assembleia da República, 2018), Portugal e a I Guerra Mundial.
