Ana Filipa Pereira concluded her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at University of Aveiro, in 2019, with a final project entitled “Phlorotannins from the seaweed Himanthalia elongata: characterization and evaluation of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity”. During this period she was a volunteer in a Research Project at University of Aveiro, and worked on the evaluation of the toxicological effects of rare earth elements (neodymium and dysprosium) in a mussel specie. She finished her masters’s degree in Biotechnology (specialization in Food Biotechnology) in December 2021, at the same institution, with a final classification of 17 (out of 20). Her MSc thesis entitled “New liquid supports in the development of integrated platforms for immobilization of oxidative enzymes and polydopamine production” was developed at the Process and Product Applied Thermodynamics (PATh) at CICECO, Department of Chemistry, and concluded with a final mark of 18 (out of 20). She had the opportunity to deal with the application of aqueous biphasic systems as novel liquid platform for the immobilization of an oxidative enzyme and its reuse for the polymerization of dopamine, originating the biopolymer polydopamine. After this period she was a Research Fellow at the same research group, under the European Innovation Council-funded project - Yscript (Ref. 101047214), which would allow her to have experience in the application of aqueous biphasic systems composed of biocompatible Ionic Liquids as platforms for stabilization and purification of RNA. Currently, she is a PhD student at PATh, and her present research activities involve integrated stabilization-purification strategies of nucleic acids produced from recombinant technology resorting to biocompatible ionic liquids. Moreover, she was awarded with the Merit Award “Bolsa de estudo aos Melhores Caloiros da Universidade de Aveiro” by University of Aveiro, in 2016, and won a one-year trainee membership in the RNA Society, in 2023. During her academic path, she had the opportunity to attend several national and international conferences with the presentation of poster and oral communications.
