Joana Isabel Gonçalves Vilas Boas

Joana Vilas Boas has a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Porto (FEUP, 2022, Cum Laude), with research interests in microbial biofilms, particularly the spatial organization and functional dynamics of microbial communities. She is currently a Junior Researcher in the e.Biofilm Project, working on 3D multispecies biofilm quantitative image analysis, contributing to project management, and leading the communication and dissemination work package. She is first author of six of seven peer-reviewed publications (mostly Q1 journals; H-index 6; 355 citations), has three sections of books, and has received three scientific awards and/or honors. She has authored/co-authored several oral and poster communications at national and international scientific meetings and delivered invited presentations at national workshops and symposia. She is involved in the supervision and mentoring of BSc, MSC and PhD students. She contributes to the scientific community as Review Editor for Frontiers in Microbiology and participates in a COST Action working group on biofilm regulatory decision-making.
