Concluiu o PhD em Geology em 2006 pela Göteborg universitet Institutionen för geovetenskaper (Suécia), o MSc em Geoquímica em 1997 pela Universidade de Aveiro e a Licenciatura em Licenciatura em Engenharia Geológica em 1993 pela Universidade de Aveiro. É Investigador Auxiliar (carreira) no Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera e Investigador Auxiliar desde 2014 e membro do Centro Interdisciplinar de Investigação Marinha e Ambiental (Universidade do Porto) desde 2015. A minha atividade de investigação tem-se centrado na área da biogeoquímica, em particular na: 1) reconstrução temporal de entradas de metais vestigiais em ambientes marinhos e estuarinos, 2) definição de origens elementares, 3) desenvolvimento de metodologias (e.g., utilização de isótopos de Pb e Hg como rastreadores de fontes de contaminação e caracterização de processos ambientais que afetam suas distribuições) para avaliação do impacto da contaminação em sedimentos. Desde 2015, sou responsável pela coordenação do Descritor 8 (Contaminantes) no âmbito da Diretiva-Quadro Estratégia Marinha (DQEM). Entre 2015 e 2020 fui membro do Grupo de Trabalho de Sedimentos Marinhos (WGMS) do ICES. Em 2020, este grupo foi fundido com o Grupo de Trabalho de Química Marinha (MCWG) do ICES. Em outubro de 2020, fui nomeado Membro Português do Grupo de Trabalho sobre Monitorização e Tendências e Efeitos de Substâncias no Ambiente Marinho (MIME) da OSPAR. Publicou 32 artigos em revistas especializadas. Recebeu 1 prémio.
