I completed my PhD in cosmology at the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (IGC), University of Portsmouth, UK, in 2012. Prior, I completed in 2008 with distinction the Mathematics Tripos at the University of Cambridge (UK) and was awarded a first degree in Physics/Applied Mathematics (Astronomy) by the University of Porto in 2007. After the PhD, I worked in science communication and outreach at Ciência Viva until March 2014 when I returned to active research. I then continued as a post-doc/researcher at the University of the Western Cape (2014-18), University of Padua (2018-20) and Queen Mary University of London (2020-21). Since September 2021 I have been an Assistant researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences (IA) in Porto. I also collaborate regularly with the Faculty of Sciences of the Univ. of Porto as an invited lecturer where I currently teach the master level course in Cosmology. I have also taught physics at the bachelor's level. My research interests focus on studying the large-scale structure of the Universe in the optical and radio frequencies to understand the very early universe and test General Relativity at cosmological scales. I am a member of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory Cosmology Science Working Group where I lead the Synergies focus group. I am also a member of SKAO’s pathfinder MeerKAT, focusing on Cosmology with HI intensity mapping and co-leading the forecasts and simulations working group. Additionally, I am a member of Euclid where I participate in the Photometric Clustering and Theory Working groups. I have written 34 scientific papers, 27 of which were published in journals. I co-supervised one PhD (+2 ongoing), and 2 MSc dissertations (+2 ongoing). I have also organised meetings and workshops as LOC and/or SOC. I have presented my work at several universities and international conferences, 3 of which as an invited speaker. I have participated in successfully funded projects (one as PI and another as co-PI). I currently also organise the seminars at IA as well as the journal club in Cosmology. I also have been active in science communication, having successfully written the application to establish an ESERO (European Space Education Resource Office) in Portugal, co-written an article for The Conversation, as well as given presentations in schools, and contributed to the book “Uma volta ao mundo com cientistas portugueses” (Free translation: Around the world with Portuguese scientists) in 2012, promoted by Native Scientist (www.nativescientist.com).
