Ana Catarina Cardoso de Sousa completed her PhD in Chemistry at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, in 2015. She currently works as an Adjunct Professor in the Departmental Area of Chemical Engineering, at Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa and is an integrated member of the Centro de Química Estrutural of Instituto Superior Técnico. Her main interests and research activities are focused on the development of biocatalytic processes and microwave technology, as environmentally sustainable solutions in organic and medicinal synthesis, for the production of bioactive heterocyclic compounds, with potential pharmacological activity. Currently, it is also involved in the development of biofilms and bioplastics derived from renewable sources. She is co-author of 11 scientific articles, published in international journals with referee (Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis, Green Chemistry, ACS Catalysis and Inorganic Chimica Acta), 6 oral presentations and 22 posters communications presented in different international scientific meetings on sustainable, organic and catalysis chemistry. She is currently responsible for the project HyBioPol (09.2020-08.2021) , funded by IPL, which aims to develop new environmentally friendly hybrid materials from biopolymer films for antimicrobial applications. In 2017, she was responsible for the ISEL Green Lab project, funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Environment, 2020 National Strategy Program for Environmental Education and collaborated, as a team member, in the projects funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, Biocatalysis for Tackling Lignin Recalcitrance of lignin and Enzymatic Degradation and Synthesis of Azo and Antraquinonic Dyes.
