The experience of working in different socioenvironmental contexts and of using analytical lenses from ecology and anthropology have both directed me towards interdisciplinary frameworks. I have a bachelor¿s in Environmental Biology (2005, University of Lisbon, 2005), followed by a PhD in Social Anthropology (Oxford Brookes University) and a post-doctoral position in Geography (2016, University of Geneva). I gathered international research experience in Ecuador, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya and Portugal and deepened my experience in ethnographic research between late 2009 and 2013 while collecting data in rural Guinea-Bissau for my PhD research. My dissertation, "Shape-shifting nature in a contested landscape in Guinea-Bissau", included sections on livelihoods, cosmologies and oral history, critical nature conservation, park-people interface, and non-humans in witchcraft and magic. My research interests also include knowledge interfaces, technology networks in the context of climate change (Kenya and Guinea-Bissau), particularly regarding mangrove rice farming in Guinea-Bissau. More recently, I have been also doing research about the environmental anthropology of wildfires and memory of fire use in Portugal. I taught in two institutions of higher education in Guinea-Bissau and co-founded a Bissau-Guinean peer-review and interdisciplinary journal, Sintidus. Finally, I participated in several national and international research projects and since 2022 I am coordinating MARGINS, an interdisciplinary research project emerging from anthropology, ecology and political sciences, which is based on a collaboration of institutions in Portugal and Guinea-Bissau.
