My academic and research experience has been shaped by various socio-environmental contexts and by the use of anthropological and political ecology frameworks to study the memory, contestation and imaginaries emerging from processes of inhabiting ecologies under transformation. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology (University of Lisbon, 2005), followed by a PhD in Social Anthropology (Oxford Brookes University) and a post-doctoral position in Geography (University of Geneva, 2016). My research has taken me across diverse settings in Ecuador, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, and Portugal, with a significant portion of ethnographic fieldwork conducted between 2009 and 2013 in rural Guinea-Bissau for my PhD dissertation, "Shape-shifting Nature in a Contested Landscape in Guinea-Bissau". This research explored the intersections of livelihoods, cosmologies, oral history, nature conservation, the park-people relationship, and the role of non-humans in witchcraft and magic. My research interests have expanded into the anthropology of knowledge, the role of technology networks in responding to climate change, and the study of agricultural practices under transformation, particularly mangrove rice farming in Guinea-Bissau. More recently, I have focused on the environmental anthropology of wildfires and the cultural memory surrounding fire use in Portugal. I have taught at two higher education institutions in Guinea-Bissau, where I also co-founded a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal aimed at advancing academic publishing in the country. I have been involved in numerous national and international research projects and coordinated an FCT-founded project, MARGINS, an interdisciplinary and pluri-institutional research project merging anthropology, ecology, and political science that fostered collaboration between scholars and students in Portugal and Guinea-Bissau.
