Ana Grego (AG) graduated in Biomedical Sciences (University of Aveiro, 2021, final grade 17/20) and has a master’s degree in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology (Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, 2023, final grade 18/20). AG's master thesis work was devoted to the study of sex differences at the histological and molecular levels in aortic valve stenosis, during which she had the opportunity to develop skills in histology as well as molecular biology techniques, such as protein/RNA extraction, immunoblotting, and RT-qPCR. In the scope of the master thesis project, she won a very competitive award, the Grants-in-Aid of Research Award (Sigma-Chi, USA, <10% of the awardees being non-American). AG's master thesis work was presented as poster communications both in national (IJUP and UMIB summit, Porto) and international (18th YES Meeting, Porto) meetings. Also, AG's master thesis work was awarded in the 18th YES Meeting (first prize in the Molecular Biology & Physiology Poster Session). Last year, AG worked as a research fellow at the Department of Surgery and Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, in the scope of a research project - SEXDIFEND - devoted to the study of sex differences in endothelial dysfunction associated with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Currently, AG is working as a research technician in the project PM-HFpEF, run by the Gaia/Espinho hospital, which aims to test new biomarkers in a cohort of >500 pacemaker-implanted patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Additionally, AG's group was just awarded by the Portuguese Society of Cardiology with the João Porto Grant (20K€).
