PhD geologist, since 1999 researcher at the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Rome, her scientific activity covers the fields of geomorphology, engineering geology, georisks, geoeducation and geoscience communication. From 1999 she is involved in international projects on Hazard and Risk. She was Adjunct Professor in Geology and Applied Geology at the Universities of Rome "Sapienza" and Viterbo "Tuscia", collaborator of some Italian universities, she is currently member of the Experts Committee of the PhD course: “Landscape and Environment”, at the University of Rome “Sapienza”. She is a frontliner among the international proponents of Geoethics, convener of sessions and lecturer in congresses. She is Secretary General and founding member of the IAPG - International Association for Promoting Geoethics, Councillor of the Executive Committee of the IUGS - International Union of Geological Sciences, member of the Nominating Committee of the CIPSH - International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences, member of the Ethical Advisory Board of ICOS ERIC - Integrated Carbon Observation System, member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Geological Society, member of the Executive Council of the Italian Section of the IAEG - International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment, coordinator of the Section on Geoethics and Geological Culture of the Italian Geological Society. She is involved in the base research on Geoethics, focusing on ethical, social and cultural issues related to geosciences. She is among the co-authors and promoters of the Geoethical Promise (a "Hippocratic-like Oath" for geoscientists) and the Cape Town Statement on Geoethics. Author of scientific articles on international journals, editor of books on Geoethics published by Elsevier, Springer, Geological Society of London and Annals of Geophysics, she is a science writer, contributor of Italian newspapers, and author of books on Earth Sciences intended for the general public. She has been awarded with prizes for science communication and natural literature in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
