Dr. Paulo Pereira is Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, ULS São João Academic Hospital, Porto, Portugal and Invited Associate Professor in Neurology and Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, Portugal. He completed his PhD in Medicine in 2015 by University of Porto. He is Co-president of the World Spinal Column Society (WScS), Vice-President of the Ibero-Latin American Spine Society (SILACO), Chair of the Education Council and member of the Executive Committee of EuroSpine - the Spine Society of Europe, Co-chairman of Module 2 – Degenerative Diseases of the Spine in EuroSpine Diploma, and National Representative (Portugal) of the International Society for Minimal Intervention in Spinal Surgery (ISMISS). Moreover, he has been President of the Portuguese Society of Neurosurgery (SPNC) in 2017-2018, Vice-President of the Portuguese Spine Society (SPPCV) from 2007 to 2012 and from 2015 to 2016, Member of the Programme Committee of EuroSpine from 2016 to 2019 and of the Nomination Committee 2019-2020, Chairman of the Young Neurosurgeons Award Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) 2017-2022, and Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery from 2012-2015. He is a Consultant Neurosurgeon since 2015. His main interests are minimally invasive spine surgery, surgery of the craniovertebral junction, spinal cord and intradural spine surgery and percutaneous spinal techniques. He is also author of 68 papers published in national and international scientific journals. He is a member of numerous international spine societies, regularly participates and organizes activities of scientific and educational dissemination about spine diseases, prevention and treatment and he is member os numerous scientific and clinical committees.
