Luísa Fialho received her M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from NOVA School of Science and Technology (2015) and her Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Minho (2021). During her Ph.D., she was a visiting researcher at BoneLab, at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto (FMDUP), and at the Department of Advanced Electron Microscopy at International Nanotechnological Iberian Laboratorial (INL). She was a researcher at the Centre of Physics from the Universities of Minho and Porto (CFUM-UP) within the scope of the Healthydent project (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030708). She was a PostDoc researcher at the Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE) at the University of Coimbra (28.03.2022-31.10.2022), and at i3S (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health at the University of Porto)(01.11.2022-30.06.2023). Currently, Luísa is a Junior researcher at i3S by the 6th edition Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEECind) (doi.org/10.54499/2023.08230.CEECIND/CP2844/CT0008) and Project Leader of an Exploratory Project funded by Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (doi.org/10.54499/2023.11469.PEX), both in the Materials Engineering area. Luísa's main area of scientific activity is the development of multifunctional micro/nano-structured biomaterials produced by electrospinning, physical vapor deposition methods (DC magnetron sputtering), and electrochemical processes (anodization and plasma electrolytic oxidation). Her research interests include surface modification and advanced materials characterization, including: phase composition (by XRD and TEM); chemical composition (by EDS, XPS, and FTIR); morphological characterization (by SEM and TEM); electrochemical properties (by potentiodynamic curves and EIS); and biological characterization (cell culture, cell viability, and differentiation) and antimicrobial activity (microbial culture, resazurin assay, OD, CFU, cytometry). Luísa's well-received and recognized research practices translate into 12 peer-reviewed papers with more than 200 citations in total, and an h-index of 8 (Scopus). According to Web of Science, 100% of the papers are published in Q1 journals, and she is the first and corresponding author of more than 50% of the papers. Her work has been disseminated through 15 national and international meetings, including 12 oral and 3 poster communications. She is currently supervising 1 MSc student in Bioengineering and 1 BSc student in Biomedical Engineering. She also had supervised 2 MSc students and co-supervised/mentored 1 BSc student and 3 MSc students. Luísa's research is primarily focused on innovative biomaterials for medical devices and tissue engineering scaffolds, with a special focus on bone healing and infection prevention. Finding adequate solutions to promote the well-being of all is her main motivation.
