Assistant Professor at the Lisbon School of Architecture (Universidade de Lisboa); multidisciplinary designer and scientist combining strong research, analysis, and experimental approach skills. Interested in real or speculative projects that spark innovation or question the role of the concept and perception, driving Design and the sustainable imperative forward. Mainly focused on the development of goods or materials (for architecture and Design applications) fitting Nature rationale and principles/tenets (local, efficient, harmonious, minimum energy, no waste, resilient or flexible, lightweight or delicate, sensitive to the balance between ecosystems and form/function). MPhil (2010) and Ph.D. from the University of Lisbon (2016); developed the practical laboratory stage as a Scientific Researcher at the University of Leeds (UK), with a FCT-funded project. Projects explore the intersection between Biology and Design/Architecture, among other fields of knowledge. Holds several diplomas from institutions such as DELFT University (NL), and Wageningen University (NL). Full member at CIAUD - Research Centre for Architecture, Urban Planning and Design; coordinates projects and supervises several Master and PhD students; Research member of REDES, a research group focused on research and education for Design Education/Practice and Innovation (Lisbon School of Architecture, Universidade de Lisboa). Scientific dissemination from funded projects includes a body of work (papers, book chapters, etc.) on practices around sustainable design aspects and the application of the Biological Sciences (e.g. Biotechnology) as well as the Circular Economy model to rethink materials and develop products. Subjects are discussed through three main perspectives: Sustainability Strategies, Science/Technology, Social Innovation/Wellbeing. Aside from academia, worked in several different Creative fields over the years, from Television Production to Product Design, Textiles, Illustration, etc., (Lisbon- PT, London-UK, Kobe-JP, Sydney-AU). She is currently a member of the executive board of the OMSN Non-Profit Association, in the North Portugal, project aiming at empowering the community through a holistic approach to education.
