Augusto Martins Gomes is an Associate Professor at the Construction Materials Group of the Civil Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) ¿ University of Lisbon (UL). Augusto has a PhD in Civil Engineering by IST-UL (1992) and an MSc in Structural Engineering by IST-UL (1987). Augusto is a Researcher at CERIS, an R&D unit of IST-ID, the Association of IST for Research and Development. Augusto is the author of 1 book, author or co-author of 64 papers in international peer-reviewed and national journals and the author or co-author of 18 papers in national and international conference proceedings. Augusto supervised and/or is supervising 4 PhD theses, co-supervised 4 PhD theses and supervised/co-supervised more than 60 MSc dissertations. Augusto participated as Principal Investigator in 1 project and as a Researcher in 3 Projects. Augusto develops his work in the area of Civil Engineering and his main research topics are Construction Materials, in particular (i) concrete, (ii) mortars for new and ancient buildings and (iii) fiber reinforced polymer composites. Augusto also develops consulting activities in the scope of structural design and rehabilitation of bridges and buildings, having intervened in several projects since 1999. In 1983 he was distinguished in the Edgar Cardoso Award (best Civil Engineering finalist student in Structures).

1999 - Current Augusto Gomes works as a liberal professional in the area of structural design. Since 1999 he is a partner in the company "CivilSer, Estudos e Projectos de Engenharia, Lda" having been responsible or participated in several structural projects of bridges, viaducts and buildings as well as in the rehabilitation and strengthening projects of bridges. As examples, he worked in the projects of (i) the North Viaducts of the new crossing of the Tagus River at Carregado and (ii) the Viaducts of the Poceirão-Caia connection for the high velocity train line.
2017 - 2018 Design Project of the "Tecnico Learning Center" developed at IST.
