Inês Moniz earned her bachelor¿s degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra in 2019, after which she started her two-year Masters¿ studies in Biomedical Research at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. During the first year, she had the opportunity to contact different laboratories, familiarizing herself with a wide range of themes and technical procedures, from stem cell research to oncology and neurosciences, where she co-authored the review article ¿Brief Overview of Bipolar Disorder-Associated Comorbidities¿, focusing on metabolic syndrome and neurodegeneration in bipolar disease. During this year she also completed an elective Ph.D. course in Cell Regulation and Signaling, from the Doctoral Program in Health Sciences. In the second year, her master¿s project was carried out in the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cell Group of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra. Her research work originated the thesis "Hypoxia-induced Quiescence: A New Approach on MSC Preservation" which focused on the metabolic regulation of mesenchymal stem cells exposed to hypoxia. It also provided data for two conference posters (presented at the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy and at the Stem Cell Network NRW), one published conference abstract (at Cytotherapy), one oral presentation in a scientific congress (SPB Biochemistry Congress) and a research manuscript published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IF 5.9, Q1). In 2022, Inês Moniz worked as a technician in the Merck-funded project ¿Oocyte aging: evaluation of mitochondrial function and development of rejuvenating strategies¿, in an industry-academia-clinic partnership with the Reproductive Medicine Unit of Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra. She was granted the FCT PhD studenship and is currently doing her Ph.D. in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research. During her PhD, Inês has published a review paper "Mitochondria as biological targets for stem cell and organismal senescence" published on the European Journal of Cell Biology.
