I AM Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and a member of ICNOVA. My research agenda is on ethnographic studies of the imaginaries and practices of development, use and governance of emergent technologies. My work has been published in a number of books and peer-reviewed journals, including Social Studies of Science and Nature. In 2019, I was honored by Ciência Viva as one of Portugal's 100 Female Scientists. --------------------------- I received my PhD from the University of Toronto in 2005 with a thesis that examined the multiple and contradictory meanings of human augmentation through wearable computers. I then held a Research Associate position at Cornell University (STS and Nanotechnology Facility). In 2008, I was hired as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Communication Studies, York University, Canada. In 2011, I received a Marie Curie Fellowship to conduct research in Portugal. I then moved back to my country and was hired as Associate Professor at IADE-Universidade Europeia. I have twice been Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna. Dept. of Science & Technology Studies. --------------------------- I find my intellectual home in the fields of STS, critical media studies and feminist technoscience where I am an active member. In 2018, I was elected to serve as a Council Member for the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S). My research has been funded by national and international agencies, and I have been awarded multiple grants. In 2023, I became Associate Editor at Social Studies of Science.
