In 2019, Prof. Viseu was honored by Ciência Viva as one of 100 Portuguese Female Scientists. In 2005, she concluded her PhD from the University of Toronto and proceeded to do a Research Associate Position at Cornell University - Dept. of Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Cornell NanoScale Facility. In 2008, she was hired as Assistant Professor at York University, Dept. of Communication Studies, Canada. In 2011, she was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship that she conducted at ISCTE-IUL in Portugal. She then decided to move back to Portugal and was hired as Associate Professor at IADE. She has held Visiting Professor appointments at the University of Vienna (Dept. of STS). PROFESSOR VISEU's research has been funded by a number of national and international agencies, and she was also been awarded numerous grants. She has extensive experience with academic and industrial interdisciplinary projects, both as a colleague, a collaborator and an outside expert consultant. Her work has been published in a number of books and peer-reviewed journals, most recently in Nature and Social Studies of Science where she was a guest-editor. She has given over 40 invited lectures as well as talks in numerous conferences. She has been invited to serve as an external expert evaluator for a number of international funding agencies (NSF, US; SSHRC, Canada; Finland) as well as for the European Commission. ANA VISEU is an active member of the STS community and was elected by peers as a Council member of the Society of Social Studies of Science (4S) as well as a Board member of the Society for the Study of New and Emergent Technologies (S-NET). She has organized and taken part in numerous outreach activities that seek to connect science and the publics. PROF. VISEU specializes in ethnographic studies of the cultures of development, use and regulation of emergent and contested technologies that posit the body as the interface between biology and information. Her research agenda pays specific attention to the issues of politics and power. In particular, she is interested in using feminist technoscience to understand how relations of power are embedded and deployed in technoscientific governance. RESEARCH INTERESTS: Science and Technology Studies; Feminist Technoscience; Scientific Governance, Policy and Politics; Cyborg Anthropology; Embodiment, Identity and Data; Emergent Technologies; Information and Communication Technologies; Responsible Research and Innovation; Ethnography; Innovation Studies.
