Carlos Patrão received an Electrical Engineering Master of Science (MSc) degree from the University of Coimbra. Currently he is a PhD student in Sustainable Energy Systems under the MIT Portugal Program. Since 2004, he is a Researcher, Consultant and Project Manager at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR-UC), in the Intelligent Energy Systems Group. He has been involved in several European (EU) and International projects to promote energy efficiency in the residential, industry and buildings sectors, including: E5, DEXA-MCP, EETT, EL-TERTIARY, 4EM-MCP, Energy2B, MODERN, PrimeEnergyIT, Transparense, EPC+, Multiple Benefits and streamSave. Carlos has experience in the coordination and management of projects with considerable number of partners geographically dispersed, as for example the coordination of the following projects at European level: E4 and SELINA. He has experience in the organization and management of large-scale events, such as the “IEEE EPQU2011 International Conference”, where he was also Conference Manager and Member of the Steering and Scientific Committees. He has carried out extensive research in motor driven systems, elevators and escalators, electric vehicles, standby and off mode energy consumption and in lighting technologies, specifically in buildings and public lighting. Since 2007, he is a member of the University of Coimbra Consultant Team who helps in the preparation of the Portuguese Utility (EDP) Energy Efficiency measures to be submitted to the Portuguese Energy Efficiency Promotion Plan (DSM Programme), successfully evaluated by the National Regulator (ERSE). He has performed several energy audits in the residential, building and industry sector, having experience in the use of a wide range of metering technologies. Carlos is the author and co-author of more than two dozen scientific publications in international conferences and journals.
