João Luiz Martins Basso has bachelor degree from the Federal University of Pelotas and master degree in meteorology from the University of São Paulo. During his undergraduate studies he has published five articles, with one of them as a main author and during the master degree he has published a thesis associated with convection over the Amazon Basin. During he bachelor degree, the works were related to the studies of severe weather events over the Southern Region of Brazil, using runs of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in an attempt to reproduce such events and compare with data from surface stations and remote sensing data. Throughout the master's degree, he produced his dissertation on the analysis of deep convection in the Amazon, studying the microphysics in mesoscale meteorological events in order to analyze and describe the cloud microphysical properties and also seeking alternatives for comparison with remote sensing data that were capable of to estimating the microphysics of such events. Throughout his academic life he acquired knowledge about remote sensing, atmospheric modeling, cloud microphysics and also the exploratory analysis of meteorological data with data from surface stations, model output data with programming skills. His programming abilities include packages such as NCL, Fortran and R. In recent years has acquired skills in Python mainly to organize data and to automate processes in the daily routine while working in companies mainly dedicated to the weather forecasting and analysis of the energy production in Brazil. Since October 2023 he is enrolled in the PhD of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of Aveiro and since July 2023 in the DISTENDER EU project. During this year it was possible to perform new techniques that improve the modeling process of the URBAIR air quality modeling system which comprises the improvements in pre and post processing large datasets. The work in the project has proven fruitful since 2 new conference abstracts were accepted for presentation and one submitted a paper for publication as first author. The publications encompasses air quality modeling, climate change and its impacts on human health which are among the main subjects in DISTENDER.
