Dr. Alves da Costa is currently working as public health consultant, for the the WHO European Office for Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD Office), in the Alcohol, Illicit Drugs & Prison Health Programme (Moscow, Russian Federation). Most work is technical and focuses on increasing information about the health status of people living in prisons, to inform policy recommendations. Dr. Alves da Costa holds the position of Asssistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (FFUL) and is Research Associate at the Interdisciplinary Research Center Egas Moniz (CiiEM) and at the Research Institute for Medicines (iMED.ULisboa). Her line of research has a strong focus on the responsible use of medicines, with projects developed mostly on NCDs, inlcuding cardiovascular health and cancer. Her team currently includes seven PhD students, most working in collaboration with other academic institutions or healthcare sector partners. Dr. Alves da Costa is responsible for therapeutic effectiveness monitoring of cancer medication in the National Oncology Register, based at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology, Lisbon. Her work in this area has a strong focus in epidemiology, pharmacopepidemiology and regulatory science as most reports produced ultimately aim to inform regulatory decision. Part of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy since 2016, becoming Associate Editor in 2019. Since 2020, also became Associate Editor of the journal Pharmacy Education. Registered pharmacist with the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society since 1998 (Pharmaceutical Sciences degree at IUEM), specialist in community Pharmacy (2009), with an MSc in Community Pharmacy (FFUL), and a PhD in Pharmacy Practice and Policy (University College of London). Filipa is actively engaged in various international organisations: member of the Academic Pharmacy Section (FIP), SIG Pharmacy Practice Research (FIP) and part of the Executive Committee of the Social and Administrative Pharmacy Section (FIP); a board member of iPACT (International Pharmacists for Anticoagulation Care Taskforce), part of the AF-Screen Collaboration, Chair of the Education Committee of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy, Executive Committee of the International Society for Medication Adherence (ESPACOMP) and honorary member of Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe. Nationally, Dr. Alves da Costa has been appointed by the regulatory agency (INFARMED) to be part of the Expert committee for updating the Pharmacotherapy Formulary (2015-present) and to be part of the Working Group for the Medication Review Project for the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines. Author of one book, 13 book chapters, more than 55 manuscripts of International circulation, over 100 abstracts in congress, and invited speaker in more than 60 conferences. Dr. Alves da Costa has co-edited a Springer book focused on pharmaceutical care implementation, published in 2019 and is currently initiating work for the development of a new book to be launched by Elsevier in 2023, which will focus on evidence-based health services research.
