My academic training and more than 10 years of experience working as an economist prepared me to be a highly productive researcher, mentor and effective manager of research projects to lead by my lab. I was pioneer in developing game theoretic models to study the non-cooperative fisheries management in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean. This work was awarded by the Yamamoto Prize (Japan International Fisheries Research Society). I was also the first researcher to create international working groups (ICES WGRMES and ESP WG Economic valuation of ES), lead the ICES project to create the first database about global social transformations of marine SES, and co-lead the ICES Strategic Initiative of the Human Dimension of marine ecosystems. The research lines of my lab are (a) use of quantitative and participatory approaches to study synergies and trade-offs of marine uses (b) adaptation and transformation of marine SES. My research focuses on the social and economic transformations of fisheries, aquaculture and coastal ecosystem services; governance of the oceans and global change.
