My name is Kleyde Ramos, I have a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI) and a MSc in Biochemistry from NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT). During my master´s dissertation, I developed innovative wound healing biomaterials based on bacterial exopolysaccharides, leading to the publication of the scientific article entitled "Bioactive exopolysaccharide-composites based on gold and silver nanoparticles tailored for wound healing" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.mtcomm.2023.105351). After my master’s degree, I started working as a Research Assistant at the Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit (UCIBIO ), more precisely in the Biochemical Engineering Group, at NOVA FCT. First, I worked on the European project PROMICON, where work was focused on exploring the ability of bacterial strains isolated from different habitats to synthesize EPS rich in rare sugar monomers. The results of the developed work were presented at three international conferences: “The 14th International Meeting of the Portuguese Group of Carbohydrates - GLUPOR 14”, “The Iberian Meeting of Rheology - IBEREO 2024)", and "The 12TH European Symposium on Biopolymers -ESBP2025". During this period, I mentored an undergraduate student for the development of her bachelor degree project. After, I joined the Be@t project, where I worked on the valorization of lignocellulosic residues into biopolymers for textile applications. My main contribution included bioreactor cultivation, downstream processing and characterization of biopolymers, and further strengthening my knowledge in bioprocess development and polymer science. Currently, I am in the first year of my PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering, at NOVA FCT. Part of my PhD plan is being carried out within the UPSTREAM project (https://upstream-project.eu/), where I am developing work on using agro-industrial wastes wastes for the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). My research outputs include co-authoring a book chapter in Recent advances in nanomedicines mediated wound healing within the topic "Wound healing approaches based on polysaccharides-nanoparticles biocomposites” (https://doi.org/10.1016/b978-0-443-22027-2.00006-3). I am characterized by strong critical thinking skills, adaptability in addressing scientific challenges, and effective teamwork.
