DANIEL SOARES CORREA DO NASCIMENTO. As for my academic career, I have 2 Master’s degrees: a degree in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil, which received specific recognition by the University of Porto, in Portugal, as equivalent to the integrated master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with the classification of 16 values. a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal. During my degree in Pharmacy, I carried out research on the influence of obesity and contraceptives on the female reproductive system, gaining knowledge in anatomy, histology, physiology and pharmacology. This work resulted in the co-authorship of a book chapter with the title “Effect of uninterrupted use of combined oral contraceptives on the vagina of mice'' and scientific communications. Having developed interest in oncology, I actively participated in an extension project aiming to promote health and/or reduce harm to oncology patients and their families, in a public hospital. This resulted in the final research work to obtain the Pharmacy degree entitled “Clinical and Antineoplastic Profile of Cancer Patients'', which was presented at a national scientific event. Afterwards, I worked as a community pharmacist and management assistant (one and a half years) at Farmácia Tamoio, Brazil, where it was possible to acquire skills in human and financial resources management. In search of new challenges, I moved to Portugal in 2019, and attended a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences at UBI. My master's degree dissertation was related to prostate cancer (CaP), titled “Effect of Silencing the STEAP1 Gene in LNCaP Cells Subjected to Treatment with Cabazitaxel or Enzalutamide”. During that project, I improved my critical thinking and the ability to design experiments in CaP treatment. I also had the opportunity to learn new techniques, namely cell culture, MTT, gene knockdown, protein extraction, RNA extraction, Western-Blot, RT-qPCR, immunohistochemistry (Ki-67), TUNEL and Caspase 3 activity assays. This work contributed to 2 original scientific articles: “Regulation STEAP1 and its influence in modulating the response of LNCaP prostate cancer cells to bicalutamide, enzalutamide and apalutamide” (DOI:10.3892/mmr.2023.12939) and “STEAP1 Knockdown decreases the sensitivity of prostate cancer cells to paclitaxel, docetaxel and cabazitaxel” (DOI:10.3390/ijms24076643). In addition, I participated in two funded projects, one as a student of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UFRJ (bachelor's degree), as a scientific research fellow, funded by FAPERJ for a period of two years (E-26/200.696/2015), studying the effects of obesity on the female reproductive system and the contribution of preventive treatment with Taurine, where we verified morphological and histomorphometric changes in the vagina and ovaries of obese mice. Later, after obtaining the Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, I worked as a researcher on the CICS4COVID project (Ref. CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-072541), evaluating the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 in the population of Cova da Beira, through the study of the prevalence, level and duration of detectable antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 (IgG directed to S1) in adults, obtained through vaccination and/ or infection. I currently work as a community pharmacist in Portugal (Professional card 26799).
