Marisol Gouveia (MG) holds a BSc in Biochemistry (2010) and an MSc in Applied Biochemistry (2014) from the University of Madeira, Portugal. In 2023, she completed a PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Aveiro. Her multidisciplinary background covers medicinal chemistry, proteomics, exercise physiology, and translational cardiovascular research. MG’s early research focused on the synthesis and in vitro evaluation of organometallic compounds with anticancer potential. Her PhD work marked a transition to cardiovascular health, specifically analyzing extracellular proteostasis in patients with heart failure (HF). In this context, she investigated how exercise training impacts protein aggregation to identify novel therapeutic targets for HF. She secured funding as Principal Investigator under the European Proteomics Infrastructure Consortium (EPIC-XS) to explore the role of exosomes in mediating the benefits of exercise in HF patients. MG published 15 peer-reviewed articles, 1 book chapter, and participated in several scientific communications. She is also dedicated to mentorship, having supervised Master’s and PhD candidates in laboratory procedures and clinical sample handling. Committed to sientific communication, she actively participates in outreach initiatives organized by the Madeira Chemistry Research Centre (CQM), including “Chemistry is Fun” and “Science Shop”. Furthermore, she coordinated hands-on science programs for the Portuguese Red Cross, including the CIGA/GIRO project for social inclusion in Roma communities and extracurricular enrichment at Prado Elementary School.
