Márcia Vieira is junior researcher (H-Index 5) with a PhD in Conservation and restoration of heritage, with specialization in Conservation Science, granted in 2024 by the Department of Conservation and Restoration of NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal. Her area of expertise is the study of paint materials and formulations, with special emphasis on red lake pigments, of medieval illuminated manuscripts. In 2019, she won a research fellowship in the project STEMMA for the study of the materiality of the only surviving medieval codex of Galician-Portuguese secular poetry. This research fellowship and her PhD resulted in her most recent and most important work: the first material study of four manuscripts produced in the scriptoria of Alfonso “the Learned”, belonging to the Spanish Royal Treasure. She worked within international teams, working on June 2022 in the Centro Conservazione e Restauro “La Venaria Reale”, in Italy. Currently, she is a research fellow in the Project “REDiscover”, working on the photostability and reconstruction of madder recipes from the 19th century Winsor and Newton archive.
